Last Wednesday, for St. Paul’s Cathedral, everybody gather as she take oath of allegiance, and just like that, history don happen. This woman no be just any kind person; she be cancer nurse wey turn cleric, and now she don step into one of the most powerful roles for the Anglican Communion as the 106th Archbishop. Chai! E be like say angels dey sing for this one!
As she assume her position, the world dey watch closely because this appointment na big deal. The Anglican Communion wey she go dey lead get more than 100 million members for 165 countries, and traditionally, the Archbishop dey carry serious spiritual weight. Na like this, Sarah don become the first woman to carry this crown since the church start operation! Abeg, make we shine our eyes!
For those wey sabi the background, Church of England don ordain women as priests since 1994 and don begin dey ordain bishops as from 2015. But despite progress, the church still dey carry some heavy wahala for body. Some conservative members dey vex about her appointment because them no gree say woman suppose dey hold that kind position, and wey dey dodge issues wey concern LGBTQ folks. E be like dem no ready make dem mind rest.
One Rwandan Archbishop, Laurent Mbanda, don already throw shade on Sarah, claim say she dey support same-sex marriages. Na wah! Wetin this world don turn into! Yet, as she wan start her public ministry, she go face many challenges, especially concerning the church’s position on abuse allegations. But no fear! Sarah don make am clear say she go ensure that safeguarding dey on top priority, and she no go let culture of silence dey continue.
Her official installation dey come up for March 25, and she go use that opportunity to launch her public duties.
