Wetin dey happen for Naija as NAFDAC don drop bombshell—dem don ban sachet alcohol! E no be joke o. This one don scatter ground, and e fit affect many people wey dey rely on this koko for their livelihood.
The Executive Secretary of Food, Beverages and Tobacco Senior Staff Association, Solomon Adebosin, don call NAFDAC make dem put heads together with stakeholders. E don tell dem say, the ban wey dem announce go nah create wahala for local businesses and employment. Dem don already announce the plan since November 2025, but na now dem dey move am go forward after Federal Government don suspend am finish.
Adebosin dey vex for the way dem dey run matter. E talk say sachet alcohol dey affordable for wey sabi the economy wey we dey run, and e fit help people drink moderate. Na wetin e talk be say if person fit buy small sachet, e go fit control im self well well instead of to dey drink big bottles wey go push am into wahala.
Na so you go see as local manufacturers dey sweat to set up factories wey go provide work for people. If dem just come dey shut down things anyhow, wetin go happen to jobs wey plenty people dey rely on? Adebosin don talk say this ban fit make foreign investors dey look us like we no sabi manage our affairs.
But no be only dem dey complain o. As we dey yarn, coalition of consumer rights advocates don carry leg waka go NAFDAC office for Lagos dey protest against this ban. Dem dey call am “draconian” and vex say e no good for economy. Comrade Olufemi Lawson wey lead the protest don talk say as underage drinking dey happen, no be sachet alcohol wey dey cause am, but enforcement wahala at retail level. He dey ask why dem go approve this product before and now dem dey call am dangerous?
Dem no carry small placard go for protest o, them hold am with say “Suspend the Sachet Alcohol Ban”, “Save Jobs, Save Livelihoods”, and “Regulation, Not Prohibition.” Dem dey fear say if NAFDAC no chill, e go cause job loss wey go scatter the whole industry, from factory workers to retailers.
The coalition don request say make dem suspend the enforcement, open sealed factories back, and start proper conversation with dem about how to run the thing without causing wahala. Dem also don call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sweeten the gist before e go turn to nationwide protests across Naija.
For now, the ball don dey roll, but NAFDAC never gree respond to the protest or since dem announce di ban. Wetin una dey think? You feel say dis ban go help we or e go cause more wahala? Make you drop your comment!
