They come set up seven-man committee led by Victor Ogene to dig deep into the matter. Dem check the certified true copies of the laws wey National Assembly pass and compare am with the gazetted versions wey dey outside, and wetin dem find ehn, no be small!
Everywhere scattered as dem find say dem get three different versions of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025. The committee come talk say the gazetted version get wahala for Section 29(1) wey suppose fix tax reporting thresholds. As dem pass am, e dey N50 million for individuals and N100 million for companies, but the gazetted version come change am to N25 million for individuals. Na wetin be that? Na just make dem catch more taxpayers for net!
Dem even find new subsections wey no dey original version. These ones dey require say taxpayers suppose gree pay 20% of disputed tax before dem fit appeal for court. How e take be like that? This na law wey anybody fit respect?
As if that one no enough, the gazetted version also come give tax authorities power to carry law enforcement people come arrest anybody wey dem suspect dey do tax wahala and sell their assets without waiting for court order. Wetin be all these? Na so we go dey live for Nigeria?
Dem talk say dem also touch the definition of federal taxes. The gazetted version drop petroleum income tax and VAT from the list, making na nonsense. This na clear attack on the power wey National Assembly get to make laws for citizens, my people!
The committee sabi wetin dem dey do o, as dem also flag the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act. Dem find out say dem remove oversight provisions wey go allow National Assembly keep eye on their activities. This na complete disrespect for the institution at this moment!
