Na real wah o! Federal Controller of Works for Kaduna, Mr. Ulagu Loveday don open mouth talk say make Federal Government increase money wey dem dey put for Eastern and Western Bypass projects. E talk am during the inauguration of some road projects wey been dey lag since like 2002, especially the Eastern Bypass wey don dey waka since dem dey build am.
According to Ulagu, this Eastern Bypass wey dem give Eksiogullari Construction Nigeria Limited to build, na project wey start for 2002 with just N16 billion. But as e be, contract don pass through different yawa: first e increase to N38 billion, then to N74.649 billion, as dem still dey find money to finish am.
But wetin dey pain Ulagu, na say as of now, dem don drop only N28 billion for contractor hand from the total N74.649 billion wey dem agree. E clear say dem no dey pay well, and that na why the project dey slow like snail. E come talk say dem still owe the contractor some small-small change wey dey up to N7 billion, including two certificates wey still dey hang.
As e stand now, Ulagu talk say dem don finish about 48 percent in terms of money spent and 57.24 percent for actual work done. Na 36 kilometers of the Eastern Bypass dem don don cover, with 24 kilometers don dey open to public traffic. As e dey go, dem dey work for Chikaji Bridge, wey be one critical part of the whole project.
Ulagu don hammer on top the matter say if dem fit finish both the Eastern and Western Bypass, e go really clear traffic for Kaduna and make mobility better for North-West, na im go be true gateway for the region.
Another person wey join for the gist, Yunusa Salihu wey be Project Manager for Eksiogullari Construction, talk say the whole project dey cover 58.5 kilometers of dual carriageway with plenty bridges on top. E talk say dem don complete six bridges before, but funding wahala and bad terrain dey slow their progress. The time wey them go fit finish depend on how money go dey come, but dem dey hope say December 2027 fit be the target.
For Western Bypass, Ulagu talk say the road from Command Junction to Kawo Bridge suppose start from N37 billion, but na money plenty wey don raise am to N77 billion, and so far, na N14 billion dem don certify with just 26.89 percent completion for that side.
E still use the opportunity to talk about some roads wey dem don complete, wey include Sabo Rail Bridge and Command Junction section of the Western Bypass, plus some other roads wey part of the Federal Government’s Emergency Intervention Scheme. These projects dey align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and form part of 260 emergency road projects nationwide. Na serious matter, my people!
