Lagos Tax Deadline Dey Approaching, No Fall Hand!

Omo, see ehn, Lagos no dey joke when dem talk tax matter! As the 31 January deadline dey waka come, Lagos State Internal Revenue Service don talk say make all employers better do their tax filings sharp-sharp! Dem no go wan hear any story when penalty go show face, my people!

Mr Ayodele Adebayo wey be Director of Personal Income Tax talk say January na critical month for tax calendar. Dis be time wey employers need put all employees wey dem don employ for the past year inside one basket, whether dem still dey work or dem don comot.

He yan say, “What we dey expect for January na the employers’ annual returns, wey go show complete details of all employees wey dem get for the previous year.” E fit pain dem if dem no comply, because penalties dey wait for dem like hawk wey dey eye rat!

Employers get work to do o! Dem go submit their annual Pay As You Earn (PAYE) schedule wey go show all the money wey dem give workers, plus the tax wey dem don remove and take give government. Section 28 of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025, clear say make anybody wey dey collect tax do correct filing.

As e dey be, who miss dis deadline for January 31 go dey face wahala! If dem forget to file true true, dem fit pay N100,000 for the first month wey problem show, and N50,000 for every month wey dem no do am well. E no dey if dem don pay their PAYE, filing na law, no be option!

Adebayo talk say the tax filing no be just to drop paper and go. E dey very important for employees wey wan collect Tax Clearance Certificates. “If dem no file on top your head, e go make am hard for you to get that certificate,” he stress.

He don set the record straight say even though employers dey file PAYE for workers, individual workers still need to file their own personal returns. So, no be say your company don file, make you sit down and relax for house!

Dem don also clarify say companies wey dey operate for Lagos State, including government agencies, entrepreneurs, and sole proprietors all get the tax filing wahala to face. Adebayo still waka talk say dem dey track compliance levels, and as e stand now, over 10,000 companies don start filing, but still get over 7,000 wey don complete am. About 2,000 dem don flag them say their info no complete.

People, Lagos no dey sleep on top tax matter! Adebayo still yan say make dem no forget the digital filing platform wey dey available. No be old school manual way wey dem dey take submit returns before! Dem fit do am from their office, as long as dem get laptop or phone. Na only correct filing go make government fit plan well and deliver better services.
