Na wah! South Korea don vex enter AI matter as dem launch beta new law wey go regulate artificial intelligence, especially that deepfake wahala. Dis law wey dem dey call AI Basic Act don enter full gear as from January 22, 2026, and e get serious provisions wey go make sure say companies no go just dey do any-how with AI again.
President Lee Jae Myung don come out talk say, ‘E don land now! Dis AI Basic Act go bring structure wey go help boost innovation while we protect people from all dis AI jaga jaga.’ Dem law go require companies make dem dey inform users when dem dey use AI for products and services. You no fit just run your mouth cook pot without telling people say na AI chop wey dem dey eat oh!
According to South Korea Ministry of Science and ICT, dis act don make dem the first country wey go fit boast of such comprehensive AI regulation law. If you break am, your pocket fit wey sore as na 30 million won (about $20,400) you fit pay as fine. Chai! No be small wahala o!
Dem don even talk say, the law no just dey all about punishment; dem wan create trust and safety pattern for the AI way dem dey develop. Companies wey dey develop na dem go bear the brunt as dem must mark all the AI products. Like if you dey use AI for images and videos, e go dey mandatory say you gatz show watermark to show say dis one na AI-generated content.
So, who dey inside this law matter? Na mainly the service providers wey dey give out dis generative AI services. People wey dey create videos, chatbots, or voice synthesis, nah them be the main target. But my people, wey dey use dem tools like YouTube creators, no go gatz follow any of these stringent rules. Dem don make am clear say no wahala go dey for small users.
For deepfake matter, di law dey shine eye well well, because e wan make sure say if dem throw any false video wey fit confuse people, dem gatz clearly label am for di public. Dem dey talk about invisible and visible watermarks and how to ensure say everybody sabi say wetin dem dey watch na AI-generated.
And no fear wey go follow as dem go allow a guidance period of at least one year if things dey ko jara initially. Dem go concentrate on training and education instead of just jumping to fine people. But no make mistake o, dem go catch anybody wey fit cause serious gbas gbos with deepfake content.
My people, as AI technology dey develop, South Korea dey set standard and dem dey aim top with the likes of US and China. Na so we go see how dis law go unfold for ground. Whether e go work or e go just dey there, na di matter we go dey follow sharp sharp!
