No be joke o! Nigeria non-oil exports don rise like never before, hit $6.1 billion for 2025. Dis kind money wey we never see since dem set up Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) nearly 50 years ago. E show say we dey waka away from crude oil wahala, and we dey diversify our economy well-well.
The Executive Director and CEO of NEPC, Nonye Ayeni, come give us the hot gist for Abuja on Monday during their annual report. She talk say from the figures wey come from pre-shipment inspection agencies, we go fit see say dis $6.1 billion na serious milestone wey Nigeria never see before.
For 2024, we dey hear say we export $5.4 billion, but now we don increase by 11.5 percent! Na wetin dem dey call serious growth for matter. Ayeni talk say this performance na the highest for formal trade history, e fit don make some people dey jealous for other countries wey no reach this level.
Ayeni drop more gist to us. According to am, total export don reach 8.02 million metric tonnes, wey dey show say e don increase by 10 percent from last year wey be 7.29 million tonnes. Dis matter no be small thing o! Nigeria export plenty things, a total of 281 non-oil products, including cocoa, urea fertiliser, and cashew nuts. E mean say we dey shift towards value-added export, and we dey enter global trade markets.
But make we no catch the big head, she come warn say many trade still dey happen informally for land borders wey no dey recorded. NEPC dey work with National Bureau of Statistics and Central Bank to make sure say all dis trade no dey hide again.
As we dey look forward to 2026, Ayeni don promise say go dey better. She talk say dem go increase capacity building, training, and all necessary support to help sellers do well for international market. She even dey bubble for potential wey dey there because of Nigeria–UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement wey go help remove tariffs from 7,315 products wey dey enter from Nigeria.
Na true say this year don show us power, e go help boost foreign exchange and stabilise naira, wey dey suffer from oil price wahala. So, make we drink to this big achievement, and chop better life as we dey move forward!
