According to the wahala, wey Senior Special Assistant to the Minister, Lere Olayinka, yan on Monday, dem don meet 10 out of the 14 demands wey the workers bring. E mean say dem dey handle the remaining 4 o, but wetin be the matter? Dem workers no gree gree to return to work until dem see better results for their demands.
Abuja don turn to ghost town as government offices, including the FCTA Secretariat, no dey allow workers enter. Security personnel don gather like confetti outside the premises, but the workers still dey stand their ground. Naija police and Civil Defence Corps dey gist with anybody wey try address the place.
Dem strike na from Joint Union Action Congress (JUAC), wey complain say the government no dey pay dem promotion arrears and other benefits. Na so workers gather since Friday, sharp sharp, and announce say dem go shut down operations across the FCT.
As e be, the ultimatum wey dem give the FCTA finish for January 7, 2026, but dem claim say no body listen. Leave am for dem! Even dem day complain about pension contributions wey the government no dey remit since May 2025. And then worry about retired directors wey no gree step down: everything don turn wahala!
The good news be say, according to Lere, dem don start pay some of the outstanding wage awards and hazard allowances wey health workers dey shout for. About 724 officers go see their promotion money soon as the approvals don land!
Even Law Officers Association of Nigeria don separate demself from this strike, talk say dem fit still enter their offices for normal work. E mean say dem no join the gbagam gbagam wey other workers dey carry go.
As dem dey try solve wahala, Lere talk say top officials don meet with union leaders plenty times, especially over the weekend. Him even urge dem to use dialogue to settle issues instead of strike. Na everyday na banger! No wonder e say the strike no be necessary.
So as FCTA dey try patch things up, dem still dey call for peace, making sure say all workers wey no join the strike fit do their work without any wahala. But time go tell if dem go really solve all the issues or if more strike dey come.
