Hello my people, wetin dey happen for Abuja? Na fight of angry contractors wey don begin again, as dem don block the entrance of Federal Ministry of Finance, wey dey cause wahala for Minister Doris Uzoka-Anite!
Demonstrators wey come under the umbrella of All Indigenous Contractors Association of Nigeria (AICAN) dey vex over unpaid money wey government owe dem. Dem dey claim say na over N4 trillion dey dey grounded. Yeah, you hear me well, trillions wey no go fit clear for their account despite all the work dem don do.
As the protest dey hot, security personnel come fire warning shot for air, making people dey run scatter. But no injury reported thank God! E be like say this protest na continuation of the one wey start last year, wey show say frustration don dey reach top level for this matter.
Jackson Nwosu wey be president of AICAN, no gree keep quiet as e talk say dem go continue protest until dem see their money! According to am, government don too dey play with dem. “We submit our project and e don tey wey we no gree see money enter our accounts,” him talk.
Some contractors dey chop loan just to finish work for government, and now, dem dey face bank wahala and even lose some of their assets because of unpaid debts. Fredrick Agada, the vice president of AICAN, don talk say the way security dey treat dem no dey good at all. He said, “This na peaceful protest. We dey demand wetin belong to us.”
The secretary-general, Babatunde Oyeniyi, don raise alarm say government dey neglect local contractors as if dem no dey important, while their foreign counterparts dey collect payment sharp-sharp. Na true matter be this. If this matter no get solve, e go scatter our economy, he warned.
This protest no fit allow Uzoka-Anite enter the ministry, despite all security efforts. As dem dey chant slogans for payment, dem dey show how dem dey collapse under financial pressure wahala. Last December, President Bola Tinubu set up committee to settle this contractor issue wey dey hang around N1.5 trillion.
The committee get well-known people like Wale Edun and others wey really fit do something if dem wan make am happen. Meanwhile, the Senate don summon Edun to explain why all these payments dey delay, and government don even allocate N1.7 trillion for this matter for 2026 budget.
But AICAN no gree rest, dem want their payment, and dem no go touch ground until dem see real action. How obodo Nigeria wan clear wey dem dey treat us like this? Make we just dey observe as e go unfold o!
