My people, make we gist! Na serious matter wey dey ground for Naija, as Federal Government don budget N1.7tn to settle contractors wey don suffer since 2024. E no go easy for dem, but we fit see light at the end of the tunnel!

This new budget wey dem show us, get line wey dem call “Provision for 2024 Outstanding Contractor’s Liabilities.” E dey clear sey dem don recognize say many contractors never see their pay. Even big wahala don happen before, as contractors don protest sabi sabi dey complain about how dem dey owe more than N2tn since dem start this work.

As dem dey make groove for Abuja, na so the National Secretary for the All Indigenous Contractors Association, Babatunde Seun-Oyeniyi, come talk sey dem dey owe dem over N500bn. Chai! How person go work, finish project for government, and no fit pay dem? Na serious gbege dis matter be!

Minister of Works, David Umahi, before sey dem go clear the debts before 2025 end, but we see sey na just half payment dem manage do, as dem dey sit down dey solve money palava. The new N1.7tn wey dem budget for 2026 na wetin dem dey use to catch up, so na good news be dat one.

Plus, dem don budget another N100bn for “Payment of Local Contractors’ Debts/Other Liabilities.” Dis one fit cover debts from past years wey still dey hang for neck. All these things na part of N23.2tn wey dem go use for capital expenditure this year!

You sabi say Naija dey suffer from contractor debt wahala since the way wey capital dey release dey slow like tortoise? E no dey funny at all, as small money dey enter the country, but the promise no dey follow. Dem no fit balance wetin dem dey owe.

For December 2025, na so President Bola Tinubu come show say he no happy at all with the way contractors dey cry for their money. He set up committee wey go take real verify all these claims, as he no wan hear story again. E clear sey about 2,000 contractors dey waka for street dey shout for their pay!
