Naija Economy Still dey Struggle Despite Small Hope for Inflation

My people, dem don drop new report wey show say Naija economy still dey chop belleful, even though inflation don calm down small.

According to Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President, Leye Kupoluyi, as per the December 2025 inflation report, headline inflation don drop to 15.15% from 17.33% wey we see for November. But no let that one fool you, my guys; purchasing power still dey waka slow.

Kupoluyi no fit hide am, as e yarn say ‘though inflation dey slow down, e still dey very high over time. We still dey feel the hot slap from past price wahala.’ Dem say the 12-month average don sit down for 23.01%, while core inflation dey contest with 23.49%.

Wetin dis one mean be say we still go dey manage our money well, because house and business budgets dey feel the pinch from those past price shocks. So, make nobody go dey carry bellefull for market yet, o!

And make we no forget, food inflation don trend down small—e don drop to 10.84% wey be better news because before na 39.84%! People wey dey buy tomatoes, garri, beans and all those everyday staples go dey thank dem, because e dey lighten their load for pocket. Food na big player for inflation, contributing 6.06 percentage points to dem total.

Despite the small good news, LCCI still dey advise we make e no be ‘mama put’ matter, no rush to loosen policy. Dem still dey raise eye on energy cost wey dey go up, and dem suggest government fix food supply chain and transport system to ensure say dis small improvement no just be one-off.

Poor fuel availability don affect our pockets well well. Even NASSI Vice President, Segun Kuti-George, don yarn say government efforts wey dey boost food production and energy sector na some of the reasons wey make inflation cool down small. Na wa!

As we dey watch money matter, I dey urge everybody make we dey careful. Inflation sabi change face, so we no go let our guard down.
