No be small wahala wey dey happen for Ambrose Alli University (AAU) as di alumni association don raise their voice sharply. Dem don demand make police wey arrest students wey dey protest for Ekpoma come give public apology. According to di alumni president, Clifford Omozeghian, di police action na serious violation of di students’ rights, and dem no go take am lightly.
Dem dey talk say di students just dey protest over di serious insecurity wey don turn Ekpoma like movie set for horror film. Na so dem say police come begin dey harass and arrest students like dem be criminals, all because dem wan talk about wetin dey happen for their environment.
Omozeghian talk say peaceful protest no be crime, and police no suppose dey behave like say dem dey run jungle justice. He talk say some students even get arrest for di comfort of their hostels without any proper warrant or notification to dem parents. Na serious gbege be dis!
Di alumni association don drop serious demands wey include make di Edo State Commissioner of Police issue immediate apology to di university community within 24 hours. Dem also dey demand make all di students wey dem arrest for protest release without conditions and make di police conduct proper investigation into di matter, no be to sweep am under di carpet.
Dem emphasize say if una no act fast, dem go take di matter to di next level to make sure say di rights of di students no go dey trampled upon again.
As di matter dey unfold, e don dey clear say dis no be small issue o. Sa to make things more interesting, di Edo State government don come out to talk say dis whole palava no be about students, but say e be coordinated riot wey dem wan use destabilize dier state. Na wah!
Meanwhile, di Governor, Monday Okpebholo, don dey try put some things in order for di university. Dem don pay salary arrears and also reinstate some staff wey dey sack before. Di alumni association shower praise on am for di move, but dem still dey stand strong on dia demand for justice.
E be like say di police action don attract national attention as una go hear from many activists and politicians wey don already talk say dis kind wahala no go fit hold for a democratic society. Egusi no go fit fit cook without pepper, right?
Now, di Commissioner for Education, Paddy Iyamu, don confirm say dem go release 38 students wey dem arrest during di unrest. Some students don already show face back, while di rest go soon join dem for house.
As dem dey watch to see wetin go happen next, all eyes go dey on di police and di state government to ensure wetin dem call rule of law. Naim bi di koko! We dey hope say dem go listen and give di students di respect wey dem deserve. No be say tomorrow dey come wey dem no go wake up well after all dis drama.
