TUC Reject No Work No Pay, Shakes Health Sector

Wetin dey happen for Naija health sector? E be like say wahala don burst as Trade Union Congress (TUC) don reject wetin Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare yan on ‘No Work, No Pay’ policy. This one wey dem plan make e start from January 2026 no gree chop for ground.

Di Ministry don issue circular wey dem sign for Dr. Abisola Adegoke, wey carry one heavy matter come for health workers. Di circular na to suspend salary for Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) members due to di strike wey dem don dey carry since November 15, 2025. TUC don call dis action unacceptable and e dey show say negotiation no supposed stop while dem dey discuss.

TUC gree talk say di method no follow wetin dem dey call industrial relations principles. Dem accuse di ministry say dem dey act alone, even when dem dey try find solution. Reality be say health workers dey face plenty wahala already, with inflation and fuel prices dey rise like wey dem dey welcome tomorrow. Na so TUC make am clear say dem no go take am lightly.

Dem say: “Dis circular wey dey try enforce ‘No Work, No Pay’ na serious abuse of power and wetin we dey see na intimidation. Workers wey dey save lives everyday no deserve this kin treatment, especially as Naija workers dey hustle under serious pressure from di economy.” TUC don call for di immediate cancellation of di circular and make dem restore all affected salaries. Dem don give dem seven days to comply, if not, dem go mobilize workers for nationwide action.

According to di agreement, di TUC no dey plan to allow any pressure on their members through IPPIS, wey dem call weapon to punish workers. Dem dey warn say if dem no heed dis message, di Ministry should prepare for collective action from workers. Na serious matter wey dem dey call for immediate attention — make dem no take workers patience for granted.

Meanwhile, di JOHESU no wan gree fight. Dem still dey continue di strike despite government directive wey don tell dem say dem no go collect salary until dem come back to work. Di union’s leaders don make am clear say dem no go allow anybody intimidate their members. E don reach time for dem to stand for wetin dem demand — adjusted Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS).

Dis fight wey dey happen no be small matter as di federal government don send circular wey dey instruct hospitals to make sure say dem no slack on critical services like emergency care. But doctors and nurses wey dey work for dis area don show say dem no go back down without proper adjustments.

As di matter dey hot, TUC don gather all affiliates from across di sector to dey ready for any action wey dem fit take. Di wahala wey dey show say government approval and negotiation no suppose be different things — if dem wan do one, dem no fit use intimidation for di other side.

This whole matter na serious balance wey go affect everybody as the struggle for improved welfare continue. With di TUC don put dem councils on alert, we fit see more action dey come. Naija health workers don tire for all dis palava, and dem dey ready to push for wetin go favor dem.
