Ola Oresanya, wey be the Commissioner for Environment, talk dis one for statement wey him share for X (we sabi am as Twitter) on Tuesday say dis monitoring na part of dem investigation on wetin lead don cause for Ogijo. Dem dey work with people from University of Lagos and other environmental agencies for dis matter, e no be small thing!
Oresanya explain say dem don start dis exercise for three days to check different metal manufacturing companies where dem dey run True Metals Ltd, Vedanta Metals, and Metal Manufacturing Nigeria Ltd. Dem go dey use high-volume samplers collect air sample wey involve those tiny particles wey fit enter person body, plus noise levels and other chemical compounds wey fit dey affect health.
Dem dey make sure say dem get correct data wey go fit follow government standard, na im make the monitoring serious and scientific too. Oresanya talk say dem serious about public health and dey work to make sure say environment no dey affect our people negatively too.
As all dis dey happen, na so Ogun State Government don also suspend some environmental consultancy firms wey dey careless for how dem dey handle the lead pollution matter. Dem don stop Vyne Nurt Limited, Core Environmental Services Limited, and Saag Chemicals Nigeria Limited for negligence wey dem show wey concern lead pollution from closed ULAB recycling companies.
Wetin make matter worse be say dem don even carry out free lead tests for residents of Ogijo after one viral video show say the place don dey contaminated. A lot of wahala don dey around these battery recycling companies, and e don lead to stop of ingot exports from the state.
Oresanya explain say during audit, dem find say some of the required pollution control gadgets no dey or dem no even report am to the government properly. No wonder dem dey face serious scrutiny, and people dey shout for accountability. Make we dey follow dis matter closely, as e dey unfold.
