Barham Salih don pass through serious wahala from him days for Iraq, where di man suffer torture and even run come outside him country as exile. Now, e don carry him story come serve as example for di many refugees wey dey waka upandan for Kakuma refugee camp for Kenya, wey sabi dey house over 300,000 people since 1992.
As Salih waka go visit di Kakuma camp, e talk say e no dey happy as di condition wey refugees dey face. Na him carry come talk say, ‘We no suppose allow things remain like dis.’ E even hype di new initiative wey Kenya don start to turn di camps to economic hubs. E believe say we fit do more than just protect refugees; we fit help dem find better ways to live and build future.
Salih don talk say di more better solution na make peace return back for dem own country; na wetin everybody dey wish for, no place sweet pass home. Dis man dey lead this fight well, plus him own background as a former president of Iraq; na im make plenty people dey believe say e get di correct agenda to make change.
But as e dey try correct di things, wahala no dey miss o! Di number of refugees don double, e reach 117 million for di last ten years, but di money wey suppose help don dey reduce sharply . Una sabi as wahala dey when government budget dey cut. Salih don still dey talk say, ‘We must adapt and make things work, but international community gats step up to help.’
Di man strong no be small, e don go through di jaga-jaga life wey plenty people dey face. E don escape torture, survive exile, and still manage go school earn degree for computer engineering. Na di kind person we need to push for di welfare of di people wey dey suffer. Di former UN refugee chief don talk say Salih get di right experience to carry dis heavy load.
