My people, na big matter wey dey come as National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) don dey plan to gather people for meeting before dem drop inflation data for December!
This stakeholders meeting go happen for Monday and as e be, plenty people don dey predict say inflation go waka up small-small for December because of year-end spending wey don dey happen. Na CardinalStone wey be financial firm, don forecast say headline inflation fit reach 32.07%. But make we no panic, dem believe say this kain increase no go last and go turn back by January 2026.
Another firm, Coronation Asset Management, no sit down cross-legged too! Dem also dey expect say inflation go rise sharply by end of December, as dem dey point finger at base-year effects. Dem talk say, “For December, we dey see say dis inflation trend go change again sharply as festive spending go dey affect prices.”
As dem don wax lyrical, dem also talk say transportation costs dey high because of holiday travel and na food prices go still dey rise due to tight supply and insecurity! Na wah oh, these markets no dey play at all!
AIICO Capital don add their voice, dem talk say we go see headline inflation between 31.4–32.4% year-on-year, thanks to festive spending and that base-year wahala. Dem even come drop some statistics: core inflation fit drop small, but yearly expect e go still dey up, reaching 32.50–32.60%!
Wetin dey happen for naira? Naija currency don get small fresh air, appreciate by 76 bps, while petrol price don waka down 14.7% from N890 to N759.5 per litre. This na good news for our wallets o!
Meanwhile, Nigerian Economic Summit Group don shout out make stakeholders engage, say inflation na serious matter wey dey affect everybody. They don warn say any spike no mean say our obodo naija dey suffer; nah just how we dey calculate am.
The NBS don talk sey them dey ready to clear things up for everybody when dem release the December figures, as dis wan no suppose cause wahala or scatter people confidence in their statistics.
Ah, my friend, if you sabi people wey dey make meal anytime naira and price dey dance, abeg share am make dem catch this gist. Naija, as e be, our economy get plenty gbas-gbos, and it’s our duty to stay sharp!
