Doctors Don Dey Ready for Nationwide Strike, Government No Gree

Chai! Na wah oh! As e be, wahala don show face for our health sector again. Lagos State University Teaching Hospital Association of Resident Doctors don yan say dem go join nationwide strike wey Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) don plan for January 12. Dr. Akerele Alaba, wey be the president of LASUTH-ARD, talk say dem go obey di national body order wey dem don declare as ‘No Implementation, No Going Back’.

How una see am? Na 2025 wey just pass, NARD don already chik tok strike matter since November, when dem suspend di last one after di government sign Memorandum of Understanding. But wetin happen? Federal Government don fail to fulfill dem promise. No be easy matter for our doctors wey dey fight for better working condition, promotion and salary wey suppose arrive dem hands long time ago.

From di gist wey land, Dr. Akerele talk say many of di items wey dem agree don either dey neglected or dem don change am small-small. This one no fit gree at all! E mean sey di house wey house officer dey stay no dey okay, and dem don forget di resident quarters project just like dat. No wah, dem dey suffer.

My people, last-last, dem gather their heads for NARD Extraordinary National Executive Council meeting wey dem hold virtually on January 2, 2026. Dem come conclude sey di strike no fit hold because wahala dey everywhere, no be small. Dem dey talk am as dem dey clarify many welfare matters wey never see light for hospitals.

Di doctors no just dey face am so oh. Dey also dey emphasize plenty unresolved issues like allowance wey dem no dey pay, wahala with house officers salary, and di case of five doctors wey dem dismiss for Lokoja wey still dey vex dem. Di gist na say if di Federal Government no act fast, e fit cause wahala wey go affect everybody, no be only dem!

Akerele no forget to call on Lagos State Government make dem try fulfill di promise wey dem don make to ensure timely payment of medical residency training fund. If dem fail to do am, things fit turn jaga jaga. Na for di interest of doctors welfare, dignity and healthcare sustainability dem dey push this strike matter.

As e dey hot, dem don dey ready to withdraw services come January 12, unless dem settle di matter before then. Di doctors no wan carry last after all di smooth preaching dem don dey do before! E be like sey di only way to grab government attention na to flex dem muscles small. Whether dem go fit change di narrative, we go still dey watch and see.
