Nawa o! This one bi big wahala wey don happen for Jigawa State as one Abubakar Muhd, wey dem dey call Akuya, don receive death sentence by hanging for raping 15-year-old boy. Apart from the hanging, dem too order am to pay N5 million compensation to the victim. E be like say, justice don finally show face!
The matter start for March 2022, but you know how our court matter dey go, na slow motion dem dey move. Dem dey wait for all those evidence and witness wey no come quick. Initially, dem classify am as sodomy, but with the new VAPP Law wey dem implement for Jigawa, dem reclassify am as rape. That law dey scatter ground because e fit catch same-sex rape and e mean say punishment go dey harsh. Chai! Things don change.
For the judgment wey dem deliver on Thursday, the presiding judge, Hon. Justice Ado Yusif Birnin Kudu, don confirm say no be small matter wey this man do. “The convict commit the offence contrary to Section 3 of the VAPP Law,” as e talk, “him don break law and moral decency.” The judge talk say this kind ruling go serve as strong warning to pipu wey dey think to commit this kind evil for future.
Barrister Yahaya Abdullahi, wey be the Director of Public Prosecutions for Jigawa State, come hail the judgement, say e make sense and e dey justly delivered. E talk say make nobody try am next time, as this fit teach una lesson. Always remember say, justice dey wait for una!
Abbas Wangara, wey be the Director of Publicity and Protocol for Judiciary, no gree miss am too. E talk say this ruling dey send strong message to all those wey wan carry out similar bad acts, plus e reaffirm the state government commitment to VAPP Law implementation. Na so dem go dey protect citizens from wahala wey dey rampant.
As we dey follow the case, we no fit talk to Muhd because e no wan open mouth about the verdict. Plus, his lawyer, Barrister Lauiza from Legal Aid Council, also refuse to talk if dem go appeal the judgement. But one thing we sabi be say, justice don show face for Jigawa and e go make pipo reason well before dem think of evil.
A dem don remand the convict for custody until the hanging matter happen. We go continue to dey shine eye on this matter; justice must always prevail.
