Wetin dey happen for this Naija no be small matter! Christmas wey suppose shine with joy don turn to blood dey flow everywhere, as at least 70 people don waka go meet their ancestors potopoto, no thanks to wahala wey bandits and militants don cause.
On 29 December, di wahala start when Islamist militants burst into three localities for Adamawa State wey na predominantly Christian area. Dem sabi enter like say na house party, and wetin dem do? They waste 14 people dey go just like that. Community people dey complain say dis no be new story as di attacks dey continue year after year like dem dey play movie.
Just the following day, on 30 December, some chaplains for St Rita Catholic Church for Nasarawa State no fit escape as bandits catch dem for their parish house. Dem stab dem well-well, but thank God sey dem carry dem go hospital. E be like say those bandits no get fear at all!
Fast forward to New Year’s Eve, dem Fulani militants strike again for Bum village, Plateau State. Nine souls don waka go as dem enter shoot like say dem dey fire movie gun. One villager yarn say dem come his door, waste his father, brother, and pikin, while dey also finish his uncle with di rest. E too painful!
On January 2, another wave don hit Bong village. Suspected Fulani bandits again do house-to-house operation like say dem dey pick rice for market: seven people don die and many still dey missing. Dis level of wahala don make residents begin dey fear for their dear lives. Make dem try contact security agencies before dem go turn to ghost.
Now, on January 4, dem gunmen strike again for Niger State, where at least 40 people don join di ancestors. Dem don also carry small children go as dey attack Demo, Chukama, and Shanga villages. Di situation don dey make people dey fear! No one sure who dem be, but dem sabi finish work too well.
Jo Newhouse from Open Doors talk say di security vibes for northern Naija dey bad bad. He talk sey Christians no go fit find peace with all dis tension wey dey happen and everybody dey need to take class from di government. Na dem get di power to bring back justice and protect di innocent.
But make we no forget di recent matter wey happen for Niger too, as one couple don meet their untimely end just because dem try escape church attack on Christmas Eve. As dem run, dem bullies catch dem and waste dem! This na serious issue wey dey happen all over sub-Saharan Africa.
My people, as we dey enter new year, many Christians dey pray say dem don leave behind di worst for dem. But with all dis bloodshed, will dem really see light for di tunnel? We gatz pray, we gatz talk, and we gatz take action! If we no stand together, we go just dey watch as dis wahala dey continue.
