Nigerian Market Dey Smile Small: Stocks Rise, But Gist Dey Jolly

Na today we go talk wetin dey happen for our Naija stock market. E be like say, after some jittery days, investors don show small face come market with some ginger!

Yesterday, the market close inside positive note as total market capitalisation increase by N138bn. Yes oh! E rise from N102.68tn wey dem record before to N102.82tn. Na good news, no be small.

The All-Share Index self no wan dull; e jump for 214.80 points, make am land for 160,806.56 points from 160,591.76 wey dey before. But no be all joy as activity for the market still dey low. Dem move total of 645.02 million shares worth N16.42bn for 44,380 deals – this one show say investors dey tread carefully.

When we check the market, e get 41 stocks wey don fall, while 32 don gain. Na profit-taking we go call am, even with the small uplift wey we see for the indices.

For the gainers’ side, Na Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals carry the crown with 10.00% increase, coming to N7.70 per share. May & Baker dey follow come wey gain 9.85% to reach N26.20. E-Tranzact International no wan slack either, e rise 9.64% to N13.65, while Multiverse Mining and Exploration round am up with 9.51% to N21.30.

But for the losers’ side, International Energy Insurance pack lose, dropping 9.90% to close at N2.73. Associated Bus Company sef no gree left, e fall 9.88% to N4.47. Austin Laz & Company dey spoil market too; e dey Omo Naija, as e lose 9.84% to close at N4.58, while Conoil drop 9.72% to N169.00. Chai, na wah!

When we talk trading, Chams na king, as dem record highest volume of 60.46 million shares. Linkage Assurance dey hot too with 54.11 million shares, while Tantalizers and Access Holdings come behind am.

For the value side, Zenith Bank na the hotshot, as dem trade shares wey worth N1.51bn. Seplat Energy dey follow closely with N1.20bn, Unilever Nigeria and Guaranty Trust Holding Company dey join am for value talk too.

Analysts dey talk say this small gain wey we dey see for market na signal say investors dey look for good opportunity to buy, but dem still dey cautious as dem dey wait for corporate earnings and macroeconomic news. E be like say people wan dance but dem dey watch ground well well.
