Omo, as we dey look the matter wey dey happen for our agricultural sector, Naija cashew farmers don raise alarms about the proposed export ban wey fit turn everybody upside-down. Na the National Cashew Association of Nigeria (NCAN) dem be the ones wey dey shout for this matter, saying this ban fit deeper poverty for village farmers and scatter the whole system!
Dis na wetin wey happen, Omo! The farmers from Oyo and Kwara states don come together talk say the bill wey dey for National Assembly no make sense at all. Dem dey vex say this thing go repeat wetin don happen with crude oil matter wey we dey export raw crude but we still dey import refined products. No be so! Time don dey reach for Naija to change the game!
Chairman of NCAN Farmers’ Wing, Mr Salami Tunde, and him Kwara State counterpart, Mr Omotosho Theophilus Tunde, don yan say dem no dey wish make this ban scale through because e go just dey wahala. Dem talk say dem find solution for this matter – no be to just dey ban things wey farmers don dey rely on.
Naija never dey learn from the story of crude oil wey don put us for wahala before. Na so e be! Farmers talk say if dem no build processing plants for cashew, this ban go just put them for trouble. As we dey talk now, e get plenty farmers wey don find better life for this industry, especially young ones wey don turn from crime to farming because of the hope wey dis cashew market dey give dem.
Dem dey call on the federal government to open their eyes and build processing factories. If we fit set up factories for major states like Oyo and Kwara, then we go dey boost our economy, create jobs and stop wasting our resources because we dey export raw materials without sufficient backup processing capacity.
As e be now, many Naijans dey enjoy for this cashew business as exporters dey bring in dollars for the economy. Why the government wan scatter this progress? Na who dey sponsor this export ban? Na selfish people wey no care about farmers wey dey suffer for street. Na dem wey go gain from dis bad policy while farmers dey suffer!
All dis wahala no go end well if dem no consider all stakeholders before pushing this bill forward. Even NCAN don urge lawmakers to sabi the matter well before dem go follow through. Let’s learn from India and Pakistan wey don invest heavily in processing and how e don boost dem economy!
We dey beg the federal government to focus on job creation rather than policies wey go lead to poverty. If dis cashew export ban go happen, then Naija go dey lose ground and markets, just as we don dey lose before with shea nuts. E go better make dem take their time look dis matter well well before anything serious happen o!
