Cotonou, Benin – E no fit believe am, my people! Just few days ago, dem soldiers for Benin try make dem take power by force, but the loyalists no gree! The attempted coup happened on a Sunday morning as soldiers waka enter national TV and announce say dem don overthrown President Patrice Talon. Chai! Na wa o!
As the news no sweet for dem wey no want wahala, Nigerian warplanes quickly take action—bombarding the mutinous soldiers at TV station and military base near Cotonou airport. Ecowas, the big boys of West African politics, no waste time and send ground troops from Ghana, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, and Sierra Leone to make sure say democracy no go dey on the chopping block again. Talk about teamwork!
As we dey shout ‘democracy!’, the palava dey brew since 2020, when different countries for the region don experience all kinds of coup wahala! Just last week, soldiers pop out from Guinea-Bissau while dem dey count votes for presidential elections. Dem don make West Africa hot like jollof rice!
Back to Benin, even though soldiers try show strength, President Talon still dey hold ground tight. He don even appear for TV come tell everybody say dem don regain control. The man dey calm like cucumber! He sabi say locals no dey support this coup nonsense, despite wetin the rebels talk about dissatisfaction with the government.
Make we no wool wool things; Benin citizens dey express concerns about the government decision wey affect health care and public spending. P-S: Talon be recognized say he go step down next year after his second term finish—abi nobody want for this coup kabookaboo?
During the coup, explosions dey shake Cotonou as air strikes dey drop like hot cakes. Eyewitnesses talk say loyal forces clear rebels as if dem be dirty water! After all the drama, na 14 people dem arrest—12 wey try storm national TV station, including one soldier wey don receive sack letter before.
Benin might be among Africa’s stable democracies; still, like person wey no get food for table, citizens don dey complain as Talon dey do him own style of ruling. E fit bad like this if dem no handle am well, especially with the military show of force! The big question now be: how we go maintain peace when the wave of coups dey sweep through the region like wildfire? Time go tell!
