The University of Ilorin is set to graduate a total of 12,042 students during its 39th convocation ceremony, with a notable 256 students bagging First Class degrees. This announcement was made by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Wahab Egbewole, SAN, during a press briefing at the university auditorium on Thursday.
According to Professor Egbewole, the graduates include students from various faculties such as Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Veterinary Medicine. The breakdown of the degrees includes 256 First Class, 3,842 Second Class (Upper Division), 6,178 Second Class (Lower Division), 1,299 Third Class, and 62 Pass degrees.
The convocation ceremony also includes the awarding of higher degrees, with a total of 1,875 higher degrees to be awarded. This includes 92 postgraduate diplomas, 1,280 master’s degrees, 179 professional master’s degrees, one MPhil, and 323 PhDs.
The Vice-Chancellor highlighted the university’s strides in digital innovation, including the migration to Amazon Web Services to enhance data security and reduce downtimes. Other advancements include the introduction of a scalable Enterprise Resource Portal (ERP), a digital admissions ranking system, and an automated system for student union elections.
UNILORIN has also made significant progress in research, with the revival of the ₦200 million Senate Research Grant (SRG) and the achievement of 20 patents and innovations. The university is expanding its international collaborations in areas such as veterinary research, plant breeding, and stem cell research.
