Golden State Warriors dey find answers as training camp start for Hawaii this week. One big question na which of their two young forwards, Yaxel Lendeborg or Gui Santos, go join Draymond Green for frontcourt come opening night against Los Angeles Lakers.
Di battle for starting role between Lendeborg and Santos fit be di most fascinating thing to watch throughout preseason. Green don already light di fuse by praising both teammates after minicamp wey injured six-time All-Star Jimmy Butler organise.
Green waka away well impressed with Lendeborg after he see am on court for first time in person. Dat one give fans more reason to dey excited about di 11th overall pick after he win Summer League MVP and lead di Warriors to championship for Las Vegas.
But wen he talk for di latest episode of him podcast after di minicamp, Green also deliver one notable comment on Santos. Di veteran forward no go into detail like he do for Lendeborg. He just leave one simple statement: ‘I think Gui Santos is going to have a big year.’
E worth noting say those words echo recent comments from head coach Steve Kerr. Kerr get ‘high hopes’ for di Brazilian forward after a breakout period at di end of last season. Santos take advantage of injuries to Butler and others, carry greater role for di Warriors offense and see him numbers spike as result.
Green na di third piece for di wheel inside all dis one. He be di veteran among one clear top three for di forward rotation until Butler return from injury. Some argument dey say na he suppose come off bench to open season, but dat one look highly unlikely because of him experience, leadership and chemistry with Stephen Curry.
With Green likely to fill one of di forward spots, Curry obviously dey slot in at point guard, and Kristaps Porzingis dey center position, Golden State get two starting roles wey still open as training camp and preseason start.
Along with di Lendeborg-Santos battle for starting forward role, eyes also dey on di shooting guard position. Di question na whether dat one go land with young guard Brandin Podziemski or di now fully healthy De’Anthony Melton.
We dey one week away from getting first major indication on these questions. Warriors and L.A. Clippers go meet for their first preseason game in Hawaii next Sunday.
