Accredited gas stations dey sell one kilogram for about N1,300, while some smaller gas plants dey sell between N1,350 and N1,400, depending on where dem dey. Dealers talk say the price higher for some other parts of the country.
National President of the Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers, NALPGAM, Inyang Edu, say the increase come from several factors. Edu say the ongoing geopolitical crisis, especially the conflict involving the United States and Iran, don create instability for global energy market. He explain say the impact on Nigeria dey show through international energy prices, shipping and insurance costs, foreign exchange, transportation and availability of LPG for domestic market.
According to am, cost of LPG don increase across the supply chain, from depot to gas plants and finally to consumers. He say marketers no fit continue to sell at old price when their replacement cost don increase, because doing so go result in losses. Edu also say marketers must cover transportation, loading, financing, plant operations, staff, maintenance and other costs before the product reach consumers.
He note say the increase go affect households and businesses like restaurants, bakeries, food vendors, schools and hotels wey depend on cooking gas. He say higher LPG prices go increase operating costs of businesses, and this one fit eventually lead to higher prices for food and other goods and services. Edu also warn say rising gas prices fit force some households to reduce how dem dey use LPG or return to firewood and charcoal. He say this one fit undermine Nigeria clean cooking goals and create environmental and public health concerns.
Edu further point to supply challenges for domestic market. He note say Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, report LPG supply deficit of about 91,966 metric tonnes between January and June 2026. He explain say depot prices vary depending on supply, availability, location, logistics and agreements between suppliers and buyers.
Edu say as of September 16, 2026, price of 20 metric tonnes of LPG for Lagos generally dey between N20 million and N22.7 million, depending on supplier and depot. He cite market listings showing prices of about N22 million at Ardova, N22.7 million at Stockgap and around N20 million at Panocean. He add say some other suppliers for Lagos dey sell 20 metric tonnes for between N19.9 million and N20.3 million, showing say LPG prices vary well well across market.
