Di Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) don clarify dia policy on underage candidates wey dey seek admission into tertiary institutions. Di board don explain di conditions wey underage candidates fit use enter school.
For one post wey JAMB put for dia X account, dem say di person wey dem consider underage na candidate wey below 16 years old on or before September 30 of di admission year. Dis age threshold na policy wey Federal Ministry of Education establish.
JAMB tok say candidates wey under di age of 16 fit still write di Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), but dem go classify such candidates as underage candidates. However, underage candidates must meet additional requirements before dem fit qualify for admission consideration.
According to JAMB, “An underage candidate must score 80 percent in UTME, post-UTME and O-level screening to be eligible for admission.” Di board still explain say dem generally no dey consider underage candidates for admission unless dem meet di criteria for exceptional candidates.
JAMB also stress say admission ultimately depend on di institution wey di candidate choose. Di board say, “Please note that your admission is solely dependent on the choice of your institution.” Dis one mean say even if candidate meet di benchmark, if di institution no accept underage, dem no fit force am.
Dis clarification na part of JAMB public education initiative wey dem call “JAMB Explained.” Di programme dey aimed at giving candidates correct information about admission policies and procedures, so dem no go fall into any mistake.
