ASUU for Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko don tok say even if governor pay all the outstanding salaries, e no go stop another strike. Di union say di main issue na di 2025 ASUU/FGN agreement wey di state government no implement.
According to di ASUU AAUA chairman, Dr Boluwaji Oshodi, di union don already finish internal process for fresh strike. Dem just dey wait for national approval. Oshodi warn say di next strike go involve all three state-owned universities for Ondo – AAUA, OAUSTECH and UNIMED.
Di current indefinite strike start on July 10 over non-payment of lecturers’ salaries for May and June. Now, dem don add July to di list. Oshodi tell The PUNCH say although governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa don release money to di university, dem no go suspend strike until dem see salary alert.
“We hear say governor sign warrant and money go come anytime, but as union, we no work with promises. We work with action,” Oshodi tok.
Di university management, through Deputy Registrar Sola Imoru, say governor don approve special intervention fund. Dem appeal to students to remain calm.
But Oshodi say di salary issue na just phase one. Phase two na implementation of di 2025 agreement wey suppose start from January 2026. He complain say federal universities like FUTA, EKSU and BOUESTI don already implement am, but AAUA no. Phase three na payment of arrears.
Some final year students dey lament say di strike don stall dia graduation. Di Student Union earlier give 72-hour ultimatum to management.
Oshodi tok say if government clear salaries, di real battle just dey begin. “Dis one go be brutal because all three universities go strike at same time.”
Di union leader emphasise say di agitation get three phases, and dem just dey on phase one. Even if current strike suspend, another one go start anytime if government no implement di agreement. He add say di branch don complete all procedures for another industrial action, and national delegation don visit. Approval fit come anytime.
Oshodi also note say di 2025 agreement take effect from January 2026, and federal universities don pay arrears. Many state universities too don implement am, so AAUA members feel cheated. Di fight go continue until dem enjoy same benefits.
