Zamfara renders free medical services to 1,160 less privileged

The Zamfara Government’s Special Health Care Intervention Program known as “Lafiya Matawalle” provided free medical care to 1,160 patients in the Kaura Namoda local government area in the state.

The executive secretary of the Zamfara Drugs and Medical Consumables Management Agency, Mr. Aliyu Maikiwo, disclosed this when he visited patients at Kaura Namoda General Hospital on Saturday.

Maikiwo said 1,100 patients have so far received medicines and other consumable medical items while 37 of the remaining 60 patients have undergone different types of surgeries and are recovering.

He said the exercise covered three local government areas namely: Bakura, Maradu and Kaura Namoda and gave assurances that the state’s 14 local government areas would benefit from the program.

Primary Health Care Board secretary Dr Tukur Ismail said the exercise was going smoothly, adding that the staff were up to the task.

“There is no indication of sabotage by workers in both patient screening and drug administration.

He named some of the diseases treated to include prostomy, hernial fibrosis and tumors.

He added that as many as 100 people have been screened for various types of eye problems and will be treated soon.

One of the patients, Mr. Ibrahim Kadawa, expressed his joy at the opportunity, adding that he had suffered from the disease for about four years and was dependent on herbal medicine.

He praised the efforts of the state government and health workers. (NAA)
