Wrestler Cody Rhodes prepares for WrestleMania’s biggest match
A shocking injury
Chicago’s All State Arena was packed with nearly 15,000 fans for WWE’s premium live show, Hell in a Cell. Cody Rhodes was introduced as one of the two grapplers for the main event of the show, but the crowd was left stunned as he took off his robe to reveal a dark purple bruise that covered his chest and arm. A few days prior, Rhodes had torn his right pectoral muscle, making the bruising even more severe. Despite the injury, he went on to win the match and was named Match of the Year by many wrestling pundits.
Back in WWE
After a six-year absence from WWE, Cody Rhodes made his return in 2022 and quickly became a favorite among fans. He went on to win the 2023 Royal Rumble and is now set to face WWE universal champion Roman Reigns in the penultimate match of WrestleMania 39. Regardless of the result, the match will change Rhodes’s life forever.
A wrestler’s dream
Rhodes has worked his whole life to become the best wrestler in the world and wants to become the biggest superstar on the planet for his wife and daughter. He has the support of his family, which gives him the inspiration he needs to continue to succeed. Rhodes’s father was also a wrestler, and he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007, which Cody and his older brother Dustin had the honor of inducting.
A second-generation wrestler
Cody Rhodes is the son of wrestling icon, “The American Dream,” Dusty Rhodes. Dusty became a huge wrestling star in the ’70s and ’80s and was known for his everyman tales of being the son of a plumber. Cody’s older brother Dustin also wrestles and has had a WWE Hall of Fame-worthy career.
A comparison to all-time matchups
Rhodes’s match against Reigns has been compared to all-time matchups in the sport, and the stage is set for an epic showdown at the sold-out SoFi Stadium. While some are betting on Rhodes to come out on top, in WWE you can never say never.
