Mr Gbenga Akintola, the General Manager, Ogun Public Works Agency, on Wednesday appealed to members of the Ogun House of Assembly to support the agency with appropriate funding.
Akintola made the appeal while hosting members of the House Committee on Works and Infrastructure, who were on an oversight visit to the agency in Abeokuta.
He said the agency required adequate funding to perform its duties of maintaining roads across the state effectively.
The general manager said that the agency would ensure transparency in its activities, saying that all 26 constituencies in the state would be treated fairly in the cause of discharging its duties.
He said that the agency had six zones which are, Sagamu, Abeokuta, Ilaro, Ijebu Ode, Ifo and Ado-Odo/Ota.
Akintola said that the agency would organise maintenance training for the Department of Maintenance in the Local Government Areas on the rudiments of road maintenance.
He said the training would allow the local government staff to carry out adequate road maintenance within their purview.
“We will cover all the state constituencies in road maintenance. We are going to try our best within the confine of the fund available.
“We have decided to use as much as possible local supply in our materials and I have told our engineers to always first identify with leaders of communities we are going to work,’’ Akintola said.
Responding, the Chairman of the committee, Mr Abayomi Fasuwa, promised the agency that all the support needed to effectively perform its duties would be given ultimate priority by the Assembly.
Fasuwa noted that the 26 members of the assembly were much closer to the people at the grassroots.
He said that the agency should endeavour to carry the assembly along so that the expectations of the people could be met.
Other members of the committee include Oludaisi Elemide, Atinuke Bello, Sikiratu Ajibola, Bashir Abdul, Kemi Oduwole, Yusuf Adejojo, Akeem Balogun and Olakunle Sobukola.
