An Osogbo Magistrates’ Court in Osun, on Thursday, ordered the remand of a 52-year-old woman, Hadijat Lukman, in Ilesa Correctional Centre for allegedly stealing jewelleries, valued at N40,000.
Lukman is facing a two-count charge, bordering on theft.
The defendant, however, pleaded guilty to the offences preferred against her and pleaded for leniency.
The Magistrate, Mrs Risikatu Olayemi, ordered that the defendant be remanded due to the magnitude of the alleged offense committed, while fact to the case should be brought before the court on the next date of adjournment.
She adjourned the matter till Jan. 30 for sentencing.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Ibrahim Imran, had earlier prayed the court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing his client.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Rasaki Olaiwola, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 13, at Ilesa Garage, Osogbo.
Olaiwola said that the defendant carted way jewelleries, valued at N40,000, property of one Titilayo Adekunle.
He alleged that the missing jewelleries were traced the defendant and was consequently arrested by the police.
“The complainant kept her belonging safely at her place, but the defendant identified the position where the jewelleries were kept and went for them,” the prosecutor said.
Olaiwola said that the offense contravened Section 390 and punishable under Section 249(d) of the Penal Code, Cap 34, Vol. 11, Laws of Osun, 2003.
