Lagos, March 12, 2019 A 27-year-old woman, Chizoba Okafor, was on Tuesday brought before an Apapa Chief Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stabbing her mother and driver with a knife.
Okafor, a resident of Ajegunle area of Lagos, is facing a charge of assault to which she pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Ferdinand Asu, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Feb. 23 at her residence.
Asu said that the accused stabbed Blessing Edeki, her mother and the driver, Prince Omokaroa because she thought they were having an affair.
The prosecutor said that the defendant stabbed her mother on the right hand and also stabbed the driver on the leg.
Asu said that efforts made by their neighbours to stop her from stabbing her mother and the driver proved abortive.
The offence contravened Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 173 prescribes a three-year jail term for those convicted for assault occasioning harm.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Michael Olubi, granted the accused bail of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.
Olubi, however, fixed further hearing in the case until March 18.
