Wits University SRC president suspended
The president of the student representative council (SRC) at Wits University, Aphiwe Mnyamana, has been suspended due to his involvement in ongoing protests on campus.

The decision was made by the university’s management, who accused Mnyamana of failing to attend a scheduled suspension hearing and not cooperating with the legal process.

As a result of the suspension, Mnyamana will be denied access to the university’s premises, barred from participating in university activities, and prevented from enjoying any other privileges afforded to students.

University authorities have stated that they will allow the legal process to take its course before any further action is taken against Mnyamana.
As of Monday evening, the situation on campus remained calm, with only a small group of students attempting to gain access to the great hall before being stopped by campus security personnel.
If the situation remains peaceful, the university will consider reducing the levels of security on campus.
Mnyamana, for his part, has taken to social media to acknowledge his suspension.
