Wilder has no plans to retire, trainer says

Deontay Wilder has no plans to retire, American boxer coach Malik Scott said after being knocked out by Tyson Fury in their fight for the WBC heavyweight world championship on Saturday.

Fury (31-0-1) weathered the early storm to take Wilder out and landed the decisive blow in Round 11 to close their trilogy and remain the undefeated linear champion.

“Deontay has put his family to safety so that he doesn’t have to fight for a living,” Scott told iFL TV.

“But retiring is not in his plans at all and it’s not something we’ve discussed.”

Scott said Wilder (42-2-1) deserves to have more high profile fights and be involved in the main events.

“Deontay was great on Saturday, but Fury was even taller – it was a great night of boxing for the heavyweight division,” he added.

“You have to give Fury credit for having a good chin and standing up.

“Fury is a legend, one of the best in the heavyweight division of all time, and the same is true of Deontay.” (www.)
