ABUJA, Nigeria — Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, don clear say him no get any beef with suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara. On Saturday, Wike talk for BBC Pidgin interview say Fubara na him political son, and the wahala no dey between dem, but with people wey dey push Fubara against am.
“That one no be fight. Fubara na my boy; him be my son; why I go dey fight with am?” Wike talk. Him add say him dey only dey fight against those wey wan steal wetin dem no work for. “If you no defeat dem, dem go think say dem fit stand.”
Wike’s comments come after political rift don dey brew for Rivers State since late 2023, as issues around political control take center stage. Dis political crisis lead President Bola Tinubu to suspend Fubara, him deputy, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months this year.
Reports don also surface say Fubara don visit Wike, dey express remorse over their dispute. Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe, wey be member of the Rivers State Elders Council and spokesperson for Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), commended the meeting, highlighting say peace dey require sacrifice.
“Fubara show say he dey look for peace, which no be wetin Wike dey practice,” Sara-Igbe talk. “That discussion no suppose dey for public, unless Wike wan make am public. We go hear the result.”
While Wike clear the air on him relationship with Fubara, him still chop down speculation say he fit run for president under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2027. Wike deny say him go contest against Tinubu, saying, “I go no contest. Why I go contest against someone wey I dey work for?”
When the interviewer ask if he believe say Tinubu fit win 2027 election, Wike respond say nobody for the opposition fit challenge Tinubu. “Dem talk say dem go zone am to the South; make dem zone am first. When we reach that bridge, we go cross am,” Wike conclude.
