ABUJA, Nigeria — Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, don clear say no be him go challenge President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 election if the Peoples Democratic Party decide to zone dem presidential ticket to the South. Wike, wey be former governor of Rivers State, talk this one during interview for BBC News Pidgin on Saturday.
During the interview, Wike firmly declare, “I will not contest. Why will I contest against someone I’m working for?” Dis statement show say him get strong loyalty to Tinubu’s administration and no plans to run against am.
Wike also talk say e no dey see any strong opposition figure wey fit unseat Tinubu for di coming election. “They said they would zone it to the South, let them zone first. When we get to the bridge, we will know how to cross it,” he add.
As e dey discuss matters for his home state Rivers, Wike no shy away from di ongoing political wahala wey dey between him and suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Him blame some unnamed political actors wey dey cause di wahala between dem.
He say, “That one is not a battle. He (Fubara) is my boy, he is my son, why will I fight with him? I’m only fighting against people who want to steal what they did not work for. When you don’t defeat them, they will think you… Defeat them to the final stage.”
Wike accuse external forces wey dey manipulate Fubara and declare say him go continue to fight dem until dem neutralize. “Now, they are ashamed because they are being defeated. They are the ones pushing Fubara,” he quip.
