Houston police arrest suspects in connection to shooting of Migos rapper Takeoff
Police provide an update on the investigation into the murder of the Migos rapper Takeoff in Houston.
HOUSTON – Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said Friday that investigators have charged Patrick Xavier Clark, 33, with the murder of Migos rapper Takeoff. The announcement was about 31 days after Takeoff’s death.
Takeoff, whose name is Kirsnick Khari Ball, was shot and killed outside a private party at a downtown Houston bowling alley on November 1. Two others were wounded in the shooting.
Takeoff was one-third of the popular Migos group, based in the Atlanta metropolitan area. Other Migos members were related to him: Quavo was his uncle and Offset was his cousin.
Fans mourned the 28-year-old musician’s death at a memorial service at State Farm Arena.

What led the police to charge Patrick Xavier Clark in the investigation of Takeoff’s death? Takeoff’s fourth-grade teacher remembers him full of life
While searching for the shooter whose bullet struck and killed Migos rapper Takeoff in Houston earlier this week, a former Gwinnett County teacher recalls him.
HPD Homicide Division Sgt. Michael Burrow said investigators struggled to find willing witnesses. Investigators relied heavily on video surveillance and cell phone video and audio. Not all video and audio evidence in the case was immediately available.
Investigators reconstructed the shooting to confirm the ballistic evidence.

“Through that we were able to deduce that Patrick Clark is the deadly shooter in the case, which is why he is charged with murder,” Burrow said.
Where was Patrick Xavier Clark arrested? Police Arrest, Charge Shooter in Takeoff Murder
A suspect has been arrested in the deadly shooting of rapper Takeoff last month in Houston. Houston Police Chief Troy Finner says 33-year-old Patrick Xavier Clark has been charged with Takeoff’s murder. He was arrested Thursday night.
Houston police said authorities arrested Clark on Sterling Green Boulevard Thursday night.
The street is in northeast Houston. A search shows that there are mostly single-family homes in the area.

Finner described the arrest as “peaceful.” Finner implied that there was a significant law enforcement presence during the arrest.
“We’re going to come get you, and we’re going to get you professionally, but we went into force with everything we’ve got, and he gave up,” Finner said.
What was the motive for the shooting? Artist Dedicates Mural To Late Migos Rapper Takeoff
A mural honoring Migos rapper Takeoff now stands on the Atlanta BeltLine after he was killed during a shooting in Houston. Armondo Monoletti is the painter behind the tribute, joining Good Day to share what prompted him to honor the late rapper.
Police believe the shooting occurred after a high-stakes game of craps at a private party. There was an argument that happened after the game that erupted into gunfire.
Takeoff was an unarmed man and a bystander, investigators said.
“There was a lucrative game of craps that took place at the event. There was an argument that happened outside the bowling alley afterwards, which led to the shooting,” Burrow said. “I can tell you that Takeoff was not involved in the dice game, he was not involved in the discussion that happened outside. He was not armed.”
Finner said police don’t know if Clark was invited to the party or if he knew Takeoff. He did not provide details on what exactly happened during the game that caused tempers to flare.
What was the link to Patrick Xavier Clark?
Clark’s bail was set at $2 million.
According to court documents, shortly after Takeoff was murdered, Clark “applied for an expedited passport by submitting a travel itinerary for an upcoming flight to Mexico.”
Records show that Clark had a large amount of cash. Prosecutors argued that he was a flight risk.
How many people were around when Takeoff was filmed?
Burrow said investigators learned that more than 30 people were standing outside the bowling alley when the shooting occurred. Police did not release the exact number.
All the people left the scene without giving a statement to investigators. The police found some people the night of the shooting and the following days.
Burrow said the investigation is not closed and it’s important that people come forward.
“We will be looking to find you,” he said. It will be easier if you come looking for us.
How is Cameron Joshua involved?
Police announced the arrest of 22-year-old Cameron Joshua by a felon in possession of a weapon charge in connection with the shooting.
Prosecutors said in court that Joshua is not believed to have fired a weapon during the Takeoff shooting.
Joshua was arrested on November 22.
“We believe that Cameron Joshua has been appropriately charged in this case and we are continuing our investigation into Takeoff’s death,” Harris County District Attorney Matt Gilliam said after Wednesday’s hearing.
