San Diego, California, United States — New law wey go affect plenty residents for San Diego don take effect from May 4, 2025. Dis law na part of effort to improve quality of life and promote better community safety.
The law include provisions to increase housing availability and provide more support for low-income families. Local lawmakers say dem want to address the growing homelessness issue wey don dey affect the city for sometime now.
“Our community sabi say housing na basic need, and we go do everything we fit to make sure say everybody get access to am, especially those wey dey struggle the most,” San Diego City Councilmember Maria Gomez talk as she dey present the new measure.
In the last few years, San Diego don see increase in house rent wey dey affect the working-class people. According to the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 21% of residents dey spend over 30% of their income on housing, and this don cause many families to suffer.
The new law go allow more development for affordable housing and go also provide funds for shelters and various support programs. “We no go allow this problem to continue; our people deserve better options, and we go make sure dem get am,” Councilmember Gomez add.
An advocacy group, Housing for All, dey support the law. Dem believe say am go lead to better quality of life for many residents. Dem also plan to launch campaign to educate people on how to apply for available resources under the new law.
As residents dey adjust to the change, many look forward to see how dis new measures go affect their day-to-day life. “We just dey hope say dis law go bring real change, make our city dey better for everybody,” said resident Nkechi Okafor.
The city officials plan to monitor the progress of the law implementation closely, with aim to make adjustments wherever necessary. Dem believe sey dis law fit serve as model for other cities wey dey face similar housing challenges.
