Western Naval Command embarks on 10km march for physical, mental alertness
The Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Adm. Yakubu Wambai, has advised officers and men of the Nigerian Navy to develop physical and mental alertness to meet the dynamics of contemporary security operations
Wambai gave the advice on Saturday in Lagos at the start of a 10km route march embarked on by 1350 personnel of the Western Naval Command of the Nigerian Navy in Ojo town, Lagos State.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the 3rd Quarter Route March held at Navy Town Ojo.
He said that the exercise would enable reconditioning of the body to ensure fitness of personnel.
“We are entering the festive period when we will be expecting quite a lot of things and I implore you to stick to regulations and instructions especially during boat watches.
“Also, we should always be on the alert and should not be taken unawares under any circumstances.
We have heard of cases and have been advised to reduce travelling at night.
“You should also reduce moving around in uniform because of certain peculiarities; and if you must travel, travel with safety measures at hand,” Wambai said.
The FOC congratulated participants in the exercise, which he said was to have held in September but was rescheduled to October due to the Navy Games.
He added that the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Adm. Awwal Gambo, was impressed with the conduct of personnel during the 12th Navy Games.
“On that I say Bravo Zulu to all of you.
“I thank the CNS for the construction of the ultramodern sport complex from where we carried out the exercises.
“This edifice has come to stay and we must work to sustain it.
So, we should use it properly so that others coming behind us will have a place to exercise,” he said.
The FOC said that the command will continue to strive to make available administrative processes that will cater for the welfare of personnel.
“If there is anything that affects one, it means it affects us as a command.
So, do not hesitate to key into the Divisional system of making your request in time such that the needful will be done,” Wambai said.
