Lucy Michael, the coach of Yobe Queens female hockey club, on Thursday in Abuja said her team was working hard to win the ongoing 2019 Hockey Super League.

Michael told the News Agency of Nigeria that her team was  already on course as it was leading the competition’s table with 10 points from four matches.

“We are the first on the table, as we have played four matches now and have 10 points. We will play our last match against Plateau Queens on Friday.

“I’m pleased with the performance of my team in this competition. I will advise the players to put in more efforts in the last game so that we can start to celebrate our victory in this tournament,” she said.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Yobe Queens drew 1-1 with  Kada Queens of Kaduna in a match played at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium on Thursday.

Both teams displayed spectacular performances in the first quarter of the game.

On resumption of the second quarter, Ikiriko Bomeigha of Kada Queens scored their goal in the 22nd minute.

Deborah Saleh equalised in the 28th minute, for the game to end in a 1-1 draw.

The coach of Kada Queens, Abdullahe Ndanababa, said he wanted the game to end with a win and not a draw.

“In a game, it is either you win or you lose or draw, but I really wanted a win so as to have three points and not a draw which gives only one point.

“My players tried their best. It is unfortunate that they could not win the game.

“But we will work hard to win our last game against IGP Babes on Friday,” he said.

NAN reports that a total of eight teams are participating in the men’s competition, while six teams make up the women’s competition.
