Warner Bros. Pictures releases a new trailer for the highly anticipated Barbie Movie
It’s about time we got a glimpse of the upcoming Barbie movie, and boy is it a good one. Warner Bros. Pictures dropped a new trailer yesterday, giving fans a taste of what’s to come.
The trailer opens with Margot Robbie’s Barbie ruining a perfectly choreographed dance party by posing a deep, metaphysical question to her fellow dancing Barbies. “Do you guys ever think about dying?” she asks, leaving her companions stunned.
Barbie has been alarmed by recent occurrences in Barbie Land, where even she isn’t immune to the ravages of time. Her once arched feet are now flat, and she even fell off her roof instead of floating gracefully through the air.
In search of “the truth about the universe,” Kate McKinnon’s Barbie pierces the veil of perfection and takes Margot’s Barbie on a journey to the real world. Along the way, they learn some valuable lessons from humans, all while listening to The Indigo Girls’ “Closer To Fine.”
Of course, things don’t go smoothly for our protagonists. Mattel CEO Will Ferrell’s character demands that Barbie and Ken be captured, and the pair find themselves in some iconic-looking mug shots.
“To live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in a perfect place. Unless you have a full-on existential crisis. Or you’re a Ken,” teases the movie’s official logline.
The star-studded cast also includes America Ferrera, Michael Cera, Ariana Greenblatt, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, Ana Cruz Kayne, Emma Mackey, Hari Nef, Alexandra Shipp, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, Scott Evans, Jamie Demetriou, Connor Swindells, Sharon Rooney, Nicola Coughlan, Ritu Arya, and Dua Lipa.
The Barbie movie was written and directed by Greta Gerwig, the director behind hits like “Little Women” and “Lady Bird,” who co-wrote the screenplay with her partner, Noah Baumbach.
Barbie, in all its campy queer glory, hits theaters on July 21st. Grab your girlfriend and make a date out of it to honor all the Barbies you made scissor during your childhood. But be warned, that last part may come off as pervy.
