Video Press Release: Former Swiss international Gelson Fernandes talks to Living Football about his new role at FIFA

1 On August 1, former Swiss international midfielder Gelson Fernandes was appointed Director of Member Associations for FIFA (www.FIFA.com) Africa.

2 His first mission was to lead a FIFA delegation on a four-day visit to Cape Verde, his birthplace, during which facilities such as the new artificial turf pitches and the renovated academy and the Federation’s headquarters were unveiled.

3 Cape Verdean Football (FCF).

4 , all financed by the FIFA Forward Program.

5 Fernandes is something of a role model in Cape Verdean football.

6 Born in the country’s capital, Praia, he began learning his trade in Santa Cruz before moving to Europe with his family in search of a better life.

7 He went on to win 67 caps for Switzerland.
