Ukpeseraye wins seventh Delta gold medal, aims for another cycling laurel today

The Delta team, yesterday, in the cycling event of the ongoing XXI National Sports Festival, labeled Delta 2022, added another gold medal to their course.


The state, however, lost one of the two events concluded yesterday.

The cycling event ends today.

Leading Delta team women’s cyclist Ese Ukpeseraye earned her seventh gold medal to become the first female cyclist in recent memory to accomplish the feat.
Talking about her performance, Ukpeseraye said that she can still achieve gold number 8 in the last event of the cycling event, which is the individual time trials, on equal terms.
“I’m happy to have won seven gold medals, and I still have a chance to get to number eight.
give God the glory and I thank my coaches and teammates for all the support,” she said.
Ukpeseraye defeated her teammates Mary Samuel and Team Oyo‘s Tawakalt Yekeen for the silver and bronze medals respectively in the women’s 28km heat race.
The Team Delta male riders, who have not done as well as their female counterparts, lost in the 38km elimination race yesterday.
Team Rivers rider Kelvin Vitalis captured the gold medal with Team Oyo’s Ajibade Quadri and Team Edo‘s Isah Momoh picking the silver and bronze medals respectively.
