Ugwuanyi offers automatic employment to widows of slain officers

By Nicolas Obisike

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has offered automatic employment to widows of police officers killed by unidentified gunmen at their workstations.

Ugwuanyi announced the government’s gesture, when he paid a condolence visit to the bereaved families, also pledged to pay three months’ wages to their late husbands.

He said widows had the choice of scholarships for their children up to high school or automatic employment.

Responding on behalf of the two widows, Ms. Janet Okuma, thanked the governor for his kindness in coming to console them, in addition to the job offer.

Also, the father of one of the deceased, Mr. Christian Nnaji, also expressed his gratitude to the governor for what he described as a “rare gesture”.

State Police Command public relations official, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, previously in a statement released following the heinous act revealed that preliminary investigations into the case had started.

The governor was accompanied by a team of senior police officers, including the ACP in charge of the Criminal Investigation and State Intelligence Department, Mr. Fidelis Ogbara.

The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that Insp. Timothy Tion de Benue and Insp. Emeka Nnaji of Owo in the Nkanu local government area were separately shot on Wednesday.

While Tion was killed at Obeagu-Amechi in Enugu Sud, Nnaji was killed at Amagunze in Nkanu East. (NAA)
