5 The committee advised the House of Representatives to increase the budget for the Presidential Initiative on Model Villages saying that the 2 billion shs allocated to the program are insufficient and have had no impact.
6 “If you go to the towns, you won’t see any model towns. The Shs 2 billion is spent on operations and management, ”said Hon Jesca Ababiku, chairman of the Presidential Affairs committee.
7 Ababiku said it was critical that the House of Representatives note that the failure of presidential initiatives affects the president’s image, one reason they should push for adequate funding to have the model villages desired by the president.
8 MPS was also concerned that there were multiple government agencies involved in monitoring government programs and wondered if it was not a duplication of functions and a waste of resources.
9 Ogwang, who heads the House of Representatives monitoring unit, said he was working in coordination with the House of Representatives Anti-Corruption unit, the Government Inspector General and the Uganda Police.
