Revd. Canon Benson Odude on Sunday, the Vicar of St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Amje, Alagbado, Lagos on Sunday urged worshippers to turn a new leaf and follow the way of God’s love.
Odude in his sermon with the theme ‘the most excellent gift of love’ said that the greatest gift believers have in Christ Jesus, “is the benefit of enjoying the love of God’’.
He identified the most excellent ways of worshipping God as faith, hope and love, noting that the major and greatest of all was ‘Love’, which should be a lifestyle.
“We are products of God’s love, which is the greatest gift and according to Apostle Paul, it is the most excellent way that we must earnestly desire as believers in Christ Jesus.
“Therefore, we must do away with any attitude that is contrary to the love of God in our lives, basically to please God and be enjoy good relationship with him and mankind.
“Note that every good and righteous deed without love amounts to filthiness.
“It is expected of us, being instruments in the hand if God, to spread the love of God,’’ he said.
According to the Diocese of Lagos West (Anglican Communion) priest, anyone who has the love of God and exhibits it as a way of life is expected to be humble.
Odude, who took his text from Luke 10: 25-38 10 of the Bible, made reference to the parable of the Good Samaritan, saying “like the lawyer in the passage we just read’’.
“We Christians want to always justify ourselves for everything we do, claiming that we love God but the truth is, we don’t truly love God, if we can’t love a man.’’
He admonished believers to ponder on 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8, using it as a prayer point, adding that love was needed for more spiritual growth, grace and passion to extensively love others as self.
