Under dis new program, if you fit bring your $1 million gift come the Commerce Department, e go make you eligible for immigrant visa. (And if your pockets dey shine, you fit even get corporate sponsor wey go drop $2 million for government side). E don dey rumour say about 80,000 Gold Cards go dey available. Wahala no dey finish o!
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick talk say dis program still dey under ‘implementation phase’. So for those wey dey plan to pack their bags, abeg hold your horses small because we never reach di promised land yet! But once you get the Gold Card, after you pass vetting from State Department and Department of Homeland Security and pay the extra $15,000 fee, you be lawful permanent resident – aka green card holder!
Dis Gold Card go replace the old EB-1 and EB-2 visa programs wey dey allow people with ‘extraordinary abilities’ to get green cards. Lutnick talk say if you fit show sey your $1 million contribution go make sense for America, den you fit consider sey you dey valuable – no pressure! People wey get Gold Card no go take long before dem fit step into the U.S. but dem also fit look out for another level wey dem dey call ‘Platinum Card’, wey go cost $5 million. Dis one mean say you fit stay for the U.S. for 270 days without paying taxes on your foreign funds. (Chai! Now na real wahala for people wey just wan chill without taxes!)
Meanwhile, Trump don also sign another executive order wey go add extra $100,000 fee for H-1B visas wey allow people work for U.S. for up to six years. Critics dey shout sey dis one go fit make life hard for foreign workers while some support am sey e dey help employers to find qualified workers. So, who be dem?
