Onyishi, who is the Chairman of Peace Mass Transit (PMT) Company, gave the advice on Thursday at a meeting with over 280 undergraduates from Ihe community in Nsukka Local Government Area, Enugu State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NNN) reports that Ihe community is Onyishi’s hometown in Enugu State.

The transporter said he convened the meeting to impart some of the knowledge that made him to be successful in life to the undergraduates.

“I hope you are not in higher institutions so that when you graduate you start going about looking for white collar jobs.

“As undergraduates, you should start now to equip yourself for the future by acquiring skills that will help you to be job creators instead of job seekers on graduation.

“The education you acquire as graduates will help you to do better both in business or in any handiwork you learn after graduation,’’ he said.

The PMT chairman told the undergraduates that success did not come by mere wishful thinking, but through hard work, dedication and constant prayer to God.

“For you to succeed, you must work hard, deny yourself of so many pleasures, and work while others are sleeping because the motto in the world of success is “work first before pleasure’’.

“It is very difficult to see a lazy person succeed in life because they will miss some opportunities to succeed while lazing around and attending to frivolities,’’ Onyishi said.

He warned the undergraduates against cultism on campus, saying it would mar their lives now or in the future.

He also urged the girls not to rush into early marriage because of joblessness, so they would not end up being liabilities to their husbands and the society as a whole.

“When you are ripe to marry, ensure you marry a responsible man who has the fear of God and whom you know his means of livelihood,’’ the transporter counseled.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the community, saying that it had not utilised the advantage of being host to the University of Nigeria Nsukka to develop more academically.

“Ihe community is one of the host communities of UNN but it is very sad that we have only produced two professors since the University’s inception in 1960.

“If we have utilised the opportunity we have, UNN is in our backyard we should have not less than twenty professors by now.

“I am delighted by the number of undergraduates in our community now, and I urge you to work harder to change this narrative in future so that we can have more professors,’’ he said.

NNN reports that Onyishi donated N20,000 to each undergraduate present at the meeting, saying it was to help solve some of their financial and academic problems in school.

Some of the undergraduates expressed appreciation to Onyishi for his words of advice and encouragement and for the money he gave them to help with their education.

They prayed God to continue to bless him and to replenish his finances. (NNN)
