Tehachapi, California — Tory Lanez, known also as Daystar Peterson, was attacked by another inmate this morning while he was in the yard at the California Correctional Institution (CCI). The incident occurred around 7:20 AM and has left the 32-year-old rapper in need of medical treatment, according to a spokesperson from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).
Prison staff responded quickly to the scene and began administering first aid before calling for an ambulance. Lanez was transported to a civilian hospital in Bakersfield for additional treatment. Although sources confirm that his injury is non-life-threatening, details surrounding his current health condition remain undisclosed.
The motive behind the stabbing is still unclear. Multiple sources reported that Lanez was stabbed by another prisoner during his time in the prison yard, but no official statement has been made regarding the reason for the attack. A law enforcement source indicated that the situation is being closely monitored.
Four days prior to the incident, Lanez posted a photo on social media showing him looking fit in prison, alongside a message announcing that he would soon be releasing new music. “UPDATE: 2025… IYKYK 🤫. LESS IMPORTANT UPDATE: 2ND ALBUM 100% RECORDED, MIXED & MASTERED 💿 NEW ALBUM. NEW GENRE: S—-Y BASS 🪘SUMMER 2025,” he wrote.
Lanez is currently serving a 10-year sentence following his conviction for assault with a semiautomatic firearm and other firearm-related charges stemming from a 2020 incident involving fellow artist Megan Thee Stallion. During the trial, Megan testified that Lanez fired a gun at her feet while shouting for her to dance, a claim that led to a mix of public backlash and a guilty verdict for Lanez. Additionally, Megan has claimed that Lanez has attempted to harass her through online means.
In December 2022, a judge issued a five-year restraining order against Lanez, prompting concerns from Megan regarding her safety and Lanez’s potential actions. Lanez, however, has only continued to orchestrate his musical projects from inside prison, despite various legal challenges.
The latest incident adds to the ongoing tumult in Lanez’s life as he awaits potential parole eligibility in 2029. His legal troubles and recent health scare only emphasize the precarious situation he remains in as he navigates his prison sentence while attempting to manage his music career.
