Two people were killed and many more injured after storms swept through the Montgomery County area of Alabama early Wednesday morning, authorities said.
“Our prayers are with our Montgomery County neighbors who have been affected by last night’s tornado outbreak,” Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed tweeted Wednesday.
There have been at least 30 reports of tornadoes since Tuesday afternoon, mostly in central and southern Mississippi and Alabama, as well as Louisiana, according to the US Storm Prediction Center.
A tornado watch was in effect for parts of southern Alabama, the Florida Panhandle and far southwest Georgia through Wednesday morning. ■
